Kori Reef

"Kori" in Greek means daughter. At Kori reef we have a rock in the middle of the bay, which looks like a woman carrying a basket. According to cretan mythology,  she was the daughter of a farmer in the area, that turned into stone because she was not listening to her mother. There are multiple versions of the story of why she turned into stone, join our dive to Kori to listen to our favorite version. The "Kori" rock is a 10 minutes drive with the boat, beautiful colorful dive in depths between 10 and 13 m. The sand and outcropping rocky wall create a nice combination light and color.

Messerschmitt 109 - The Airplane - Scubakreta Diving Center - Hersonissos - Malia - Crete.

Messerschmitt 109 - The Airplane

Special Boat Dive

Beautiful wreck diving on a Messerchmidt 109-D WWII single-seater fighter aircraft. Laying upside down, the fuselage is very well maintained with the whole body, the machine gun, and bullet impacts are still visible. One of the landing tires still has air inside!

The tail of the plane is broken apart and can be seen a few meters from the plane. It's a small airplane, but it's historical significance is very important, as the Messerschmitt aircrafts used the backbone of the Luftwaffe.

Cretans resisted bravely during WWII, we encourage you to read about the battle of Crete to find out more about the brave locals. The invasion of Crete was the first large-scale airborne assault and the first time an entire division was dropped from the air.

The dive is quite challenging, with a 25m deep blue decent, located unprotected outside the bay. Suitable only for experienced divers and only when weather conditions allow it.

Access : Boat

The access to the site depends a lot on the conditions of deep-sea diving, the winds and the weather. This is the only divesite outside the protection of the bay.

Required certification : Advanced Open Water
